The business works but isn’t growing: 7 places where money leaks

Sales are flat, leads cost more, and the reason is unclear. Here are seven places where businesses most often lose money, and where to start fixing it.

Owners rarely come asking for “more ads”. They come with a feeling that something is off. Sales are flat or falling, there are fewer leads than a year ago, margins are shrinking. The team is busy, ads are running, content goes out. Everything seems right, yet the business isn’t growing.

The problem is rarely in one place. Usually it is a handful of small leaks that together eat the growth. Here are seven places to check first.

1. The positioning has blurred

The business started with a clear idea, then added products, audiences and promises. Now a customer can’t say in one sentence how you differ from competitors. When the difference is invisible, you get compared on price, and margin is the first thing to go.

2. Marketing is a string of separate campaigns

A promotion, a seasonal push, a collaboration with an influencer. Each can work on its own, but they don’t add up to a system. There is no clear customer journey, no consistent message and no compounding effect. Every month starts from zero.

3. There are leads but few sales

Marketing reports leads, sales complains about their quality. Money is lost in between: slow follow-up, no script, nobody returns to people who didn’t buy straight away. Doubling the ad budget won’t help when the funnel leaks further down.

4. There are no repeat sales

Winning a new customer usually costs more than bringing back an existing one. Without a customer database, a loyalty programme or any contact after purchase, the business pays full price for every sale. CRM is not software; it is a system of relationships with customers.

5. The experience doesn’t match the promise

The ads promise premium service; in reality the customer waits, gets no reply or meets indifference. The gap between promise and experience hurts both repeat sales and referrals. Sometimes the cheapest growth lever is not a new channel but fixed service.

6. Nobody counts unit economics

What does it cost to win a customer? How much do they bring over time? Which channels pay back and which only create the look of activity? Without these numbers, decisions are made on gut feeling and the budget spreads across channels that don’t work.

7. Processes and the team can’t keep up

What worked at the start stops working at a larger scale. There is no planning rhythm, roles are blurred, decisions wait for the owner. Marketing becomes a reaction to problems instead of a growth tool.

You don’t need to know which service you need. Bring the business problem, and we will find what is holding growth back.

Where to start

Not with a new ad campaign. First comes a full audit: look at the whole business, from positioning to processes, and find exactly where money is lost and where the potential is. Then a strategy for change with clear priorities. Only then delivery that can be measured.

  • Business and marketing audit
  • Points of loss and growth potential
  • Strategy for change and priorities
  • Delivery and measured results

This is how Fix & Grow works. If you recognised your business in at least two of the points above, it is a good moment to look at it together.
